The Maude Kerns Art Center presents “In the Moment: Self-Portraits of 20 Women Artists,” opening on Friday, May 16 with a public reception from 6 – 8 pm. Zach & Valter perform for the opening reception. “In the Moment” features work in eleven different mediums -- including painting, sculpture, jewelry, basketry, dance, and songwriting -- by women artists from Oregon, as well as Washington, California, and Louisiana. The exhibit is on view through Friday, June 20.

Participating artist and exhibit curator Lo Caudle developed the original concept for “In the Moment.” She asked each artist to create self-portrait pieces or presentations for the show within a very discrete timeframe: the six-month period prior to the opening of the exhibit. Caudle envisioned the exhibit as an opportunity to explore the concept of self that is expressed through the creative process, as well as an invitation to look closely at the “moment of inspiration, creation, and the very essence of being.”
